Year 3 Swimming Information.
Tue 05 Sep 2023Dear Parents,
Swimming lessons for Year 3 children begin on Monday 11th September. They will take place at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre, on the dates listed below. The children are transported to and from the centre on a private coach.
The children must arrive at school promptly as 3BR leave school at 8.45am and 3TN at 9:15am. Both classes will be back at school by 11:00am.
In the first session the children will be grouped according to their swimming ability. Each week they will then be taught in groups by professional coaches, according to the National Curriculum requirements.
The children will require a one-piece swimming costume or trunks, a towel, a swimming cap (for any hair that is long enough to be tied up) and goggles. Please can the children bring their swimming kit in a suitable named bag and wear their normal uniform to school. Any long hair must be tied up and should be covered with a swimming cap. No earrings should be worn on a Monday. It is helpful if the children can already be wearing their costume under their uniform, with underwear in their swimming bag as this helps with quicker changing!
The children are given 10 lessons of 35 – 40 minutes each. The cost for swimming in the is £30.00This contribution can be paid on line using ParentMail and allows parents to pay in varying amounts or instalments if you prefer during the term, building up to the £30 total. You can also pay by cash or cheque in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and class clearly marked, any cheques to be made payable to Mudeford Junior School.

On the children’s PE day, please could they come into school wearing their full PE kit.
3TN have PE on Wednesdays and 3BR have PE on Fridays.
PE and Sport at Mudeford Junior School
On PE days your child can come into school wearing the school PE Kit as follows:
- Navy t-shirt (with the Mudeford logo on) or plain white t-shirt.
- Tracksuit bottoms (plain black or navy blue).
- Black shorts.
- They may wear their shorts underneath their track suit bottoms which may be taken off during the day.
- Mudeford Junior sweatshirts should be worn during the winter months rather than any other sweatshirts or hoodies.
- Sensible trainers
- Football kit is not to be worn to school.
Hair:
- Long hair (both boys and girls) will need to be tied up for PE and Games lessons for Health and Safety reasons. Please make sure your child has their hair tied back on these days before coming to school or that they have a hair bobble in their bag.
Jewellery:
- If your child has their ear/s pierced then their earring/s need to be removed before PE lessons. If they cannot be removed, they will need to be taped up before the lesson.

Industrial Action - Strike Action. School Open for all Year Groups as usual.
Tue 27 Jun 2023National Education Union – industrial Action. School Open for all Year Groups as usual.
As you may be aware from recent news bulletins and the national press, the National Education Union (NEU) has balloted to take industrial action. The NEU has subsequently authorised their members to join strike action on Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July.
On this occasion the school will be open as usual for all Year Groups as enough staff are available for the school to run as normal.

Open Evening
There will be an informal open evening for all year groups on Tuesday 27 June between 5.00 and 6.30pm. This is an opportunity for children to bring their parents in to school to look through their work. Teachers will be in attendance. There is no need to book an appointment.
SAT Tests / End of Year Reports
Year 6 children have completed their SAT tests. We are very proud of how hard the children have worked. Their results, alongside the end of year report, will be sent out in July.
SAT tests for Year 6 in 2024 will take place during the week beginning 13 May 2024.
End of Year Reports for all other year groups will be sent out in July with the names of their new teacher for academic year 2023 – 2024.
Year 6 Residential Trip
The year 6 residential trip to Osmington Bay took place on Friday 7 June – Monday 10 June and was a great success, enjoyed by all the children and accompanying staff.
The residential trip for 2024 has been booked for Friday 7 June – Monday 10 June 2024. Mr Goodlet has already sent out information. The deposit of £80 for our present Year 5 children is due by Monday 3 July.
Year 6 Transition Day
Transition day for all year 6 children will be on Friday 30 June. Children will be visiting their new secondary schools on this day. Parents will need to arrange transport for their own child
Sun Protection
The warmer weather has arrived, we are concerned that the children have adequate protection from the sun especially during the long lunch break. Could you please send the children to school with:
Sun cream Hat Water bottle
We will allow the children to have a drink as often as they need it. Thank you for your support.
Wraparound care
The school have continued to actively seek an OFSTED registered provider to offer before school (7.45 – 8.45am) and after school (3.15-6.00pm) care. The Governors of the school would welcome any approach from a provider who can offer this facility. Historically this provision has been subsidised by the school to help facilitate wraparound care.
Holidays in Term Time
Government legislation makes it clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term times unless there are exceptional circumstances. It is extremely unlikely that time out of school for a holiday will be considered exceptional circumstances. As a school we are committed to ensuring that pupils miss as little time as possible.

Whole School Newsletter / May 2023
Wed 17 May 2023Dear Parent/Carer,
Year 6 children have completed their SAT tests. We are very proud of how hard the children have worked. Their results, alongside the end of year reports, will be sent out in July.
The year 6 residential trip to Osmington Bay (Friday 9 – Monday 12 June) is fast approaching. Mr Goodlet will be sending out information to year 6 parents.
Transition day for all year 6 children will be on Friday 30 June. Children will be visiting their new secondary schools on this day. Parents will need to arrange transport for their own child.
The residential trip for our present year 5 children has been booked for Friday 7 – Monday 10 June 2024. Mr Goodlet has already sent out information.
Sports Day
Sports Day will be held on Tuesday 23 May and the weather is set to be fine! All parents are invited to come along and support the event. The main Mudeford Lane gate will be open from 10.15am and the event will finish around 12 o’clock.
Relationship and Sex Education
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) for Years 5 and 6 will take place during the second half of the summer term. Miss McKinley, PSHE Subject Leader, will be giving parents the opportunity to discuss the content that will be shared with the children. Year 5 viewing will take place on Thursday 25 May 5.15pm – 6.15pm – and Year 6 viewing Thursday 25 May 6.15pm – 7.15pm.
School Photographer Visiting – Friday 19 May (Class Photos)
All classes will have the opportunity to have a class photo. We ask that all children come to school wearing their school uniform. If a class has PE on that day the children will need to bring in PE kit to change into after they have had their photo taken.

King’s Coronation Celebrations
Tue 25 Apr 2023Dear Parents,
To celebrate the King’s Coronation, we will be having a special time of celebration. During the school day on Friday 5th May the children will take part in a Coronation Celebration. During the morning, they will have the chance to decorate a biscuit which they can eat at the celebration. They will still need a normal lunchbox or they will receive their normal hot meal at lunchtime.
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF!
Are you a keen baker? Are your cakes worthy of royalty? On Wednesday 3rd May we will be sending home a paper plate and it would be great if you could fill the plate with cakes (homemade or shop bought) and return to school on the morning of Friday 5th May. Cupcakes, whole cakes, biscuits or tray bakes would be most welcome. We will be holding a cake sale that day after school. We are looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to help set up the cake stall and then sell the cakes from about 2pm. Please email to office@mudefordjs.co.uk if you would like to help.
FLAGS
On Friday 28th April we will send home a piece of card which your child should decorate to commemorate the King’s Coronation. This should be brought to school on Friday 5th May. We will attach them to a piece of dowel and the children can take them out to wave during the school celebration.
MAYPOLE
A group of children will be performing a maypole dance during our school coronation picnic. We will be opening the gates at the earlier time of 2:45pm on Friday 5th May and you are warmly invited to come along and watch the Maypole troop perform, before treating yourself to a cake from the cake stall!
BLING YOUR BIKE AND YOURSELF!
The children are welcome to come to school in red, white and blue mufti on Friday 5th May. They can also choose to bling their bikes or scooters in red, white and blue theme to celebrate the day. There will be prizes for the winning designs.
The key dates and times are listed below:
Friday 28th April- Children will bring home a piece of card so they can create a commemorative flag.
Tuesday 3rd May- Children will come home with a paper plate to be filled with homemade or shop bought cakes or biscuits
Friday 5th May –
- Return the paper plate with cakes at drop off. Bring your pennies after school for the cake sale (cakes from 20p upwards).
- Bring the flag design back to school.
- Children to wear red, white and blue mufti.
- Children can choose to bling their bike or scooter.
- Cake sale after school.
- You are invited to watch the maypole troop perform on the field from 2:45pm.

Summer term - April Whole School Newsletter
Thu 20 Apr 2023Welcome back to the summer term, as always, this is a busy term. All dates for the term can be found on the school website in the calendar section.
Industrial action
As you may be aware from recent news bulletins and the national press, the National Education Union (NEU) has balloted to take further industrial action. The NEU has subsequently authorised their members to join strike action on two days over the next few weeks, these dates being Thursday 27 April and Tuesday 2 May.
The school has overall responsibility for dealing with the practical effects of industrial action and for ensuring that appropriate action is taken in response. In doing so we must balance the need to maintain continuity of educational provision with operational considerations including health and safety requirements.
We are also aware that we need to inform parents/carers at the earliest opportunity to give them sufficient time to make alternative arrangements.
We have considered the health and safety consequences of the strike action and a risk assessment has been made. With a large number of the staff taking industrial action it would be unsafe to attempt to open for all students on both the days.
Therefore, it is necessary to close Mudeford Junior School for all children on Thursday 27 April and Tuesday 2 May.
Summer term after school clubs
Teamtheme are continuing to offer after school clubs on Tuesdays 3.15 - 4.25pm for years 3 and 4 and on Fridays for years 5 and 6.
Harry Lund Tennis continues to offer after school clubs on Mondays 3.15-4.25pm for years 5 and 6 and for years 3 and 4 on Wednesdays.
Gardening and Computer clubs will run some further sessions – information has been passed on to the relevant families.
Year 5 and 6 children who have shown an interest in Athletics club have been advised of the relevant dates for their separate year groups.
