    Thu 25 Feb 2021 M.Partridge

    Dear Parents / Carers,

Following the Government’s announcement on Monday 22 February I am pleased to be welcoming back all the children in to school on Monday 8 March. We are really looking forward to seeing the children learning again back in school.

The school has been open throughout the pandemic catering for up to 85 critical worker children daily. Whilst we had this group in school, the majority of children were being taught at home. I would like to thank all of the parents who have been helping the children with their learning at home throughout this difficult period. Even though these have been challenging times and learning has taken place via Google Classroom, the teachers have been very impressed with the levels of engagement and quality of work produced.

All three new members of staff who started in January have settled in to the school. Miss Basson, an experienced teacher, who will be teaching in Year 6, Mrs Hart who will be working as a Teaching Assistant in Year 4 and Miss Vooght will be teaching in Year 3 covering Miss McKinley’s maternity leave.

Many congratulations to Miss McKinley who welcomed a little girl, Olivia, into her family earlier this month.

We have decided to cancel the INSET day originally planned for Friday 26th March, as we will have only recently returned to school and want to maximise all learning opportunities. This will be rearranged for a later date in the summer term.

We are hoping to restart after school clubs as soon as possible. Information will be sent out shortly.

As Covid is still prevalent in the Community, safety protocols remain in place including social distancing and staggered drop off and collection times.

    Dropping off and Collecting children:

The school has been asked by parents whether they are allowed to wear face coverings on the school site if they so wish. We would encourage face coverings being worn by visiting adults whilst being on the school premises.

We ask that adults maintain two metre distancing from other adults, staff and children whilst on the school grounds.

We kindly ask that the number of adults collecting a child in the school is kept to a minimum thus reducing the number of adults on site.

We kindly request that the children arrive during their allocated slot so that numbers of parents and children on site can be safely managed.

Leaving the school site promptly when your child has been released by the class teacher.

We ask children of 4TN to arrive no earlier than 8.30am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.35am.

    Fri 05 Feb 2021 M.Partridge

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Although we have had up to 80 children attending school on a daily basis throughout this lockdown, the school has missed all those children learning at home.

The number of children of critical workers attending school has increased five-fold from this time last year. Following the Government’s announcement that schools are not likely to return until Monday 8th March, the school will continue with its provision for this group of critical worker children presently attending school until that day. Critical workers do not need to reapply for this provision, however, as per Government advice, if you are now able to look after your child at home, please contact the school as we would like to minimise the risk of infection in school by reducing numbers further.

We wish Miss McKinley all the best now that she has started her maternity leave. Miss Vooght will be teaching in Year 3 to cover Miss McKInley. We are thrilled with how Miss Vooght, Miss Basson (teaching in Year 6) and Mrs Hart (TA in Year 4) have settled into the school.

Covid 19 has affected the children and the school in numerous ways. Since June last year, the school has invested time and resources into researching and implementing new methods of teaching and communication. The new website, including Twitter function, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and SchoolCloud (Parents Evening/meetings with parents) have all been introduced. The Government’s remit for this lockdown is to provide a progressive and well sequenced curriculum for those critical worker children in school as well as those accessing the curriculum from home. Google Classroom allows the teachers to monitor closely those children who are accessing and engaging in home based learning. We are very impressed with both the quality and quantity of work that the children are now producing.

There are now only one or two children per year group who are causing concern with their level of engagement. If your child is having any difficulty please do not hesitate to contact the class teachers who are available to sort out any issues, including a lack of suitable devices for your child.

The Government has promised to provide the school with information regarding the proposed reopening of schools two weeks in advance. As soon as we are informed of any developments, I will write to keep you updated.

The children are coping amazingly well during these unprecedented times and, as always, we are extremely proud of them.

    Kind regards
