    Dear Parents/Carers

                                                                                                                    06 June 2022

The summer term has been an extremely busy one with so many events taking place including the school disco, sports day, Jubilee celebrations, Parents’ Evenings school trips and the Year 6 Osmington Bay Residential.   I would like to thank you for your support during the term in attending and supporting these community events.

    Author Visit and Book Fair

During the week of 20th June we held a Book Fair and all the children had the opportunity to work alongside a visiting author.  Proceeds from the Book Fair totalled over £1000 of which the school will receive £650 worth of books!

    PSHE

Relationships and Sex Education for Years 5 and 6 will take place during the last two weeks in the summer term.  A big thank you to those parents who came to the viewings and gave us valuable feedback on the contents.

    Year 6 Residential Visit

The Year 6 residential at Osmington Bay took place from Friday 10th June until Monday 13th June.  The children’s behaviour was exemplary and a fun weekend enjoyed by all.  The residential trip in 2023 will be held from Friday 9th June to Monday 12th June.

    School Council Fundraising Fun Day

I have been very proud of our School Council this year, over the last two weeks they have been played an integral part in the interview process of new Teaching Assistants who will join our school in September.  They have also met with representatives from Outdoor Exercise equipment suppliers with the aim of installing a Daily Mile track around the circumference of the field.

As a Rights Respecting School we are always thinking of others and ways in which we can help them. For over 10 years we have funded the education of a girl called Agness in Zambia. Not only have we supported her through education, we have also paid for her to have a daily hot meal at school.

The School Council met to vote on how to spend the proceeds of the Fun Day and it was decided that all monies raised will be used to allow us to continue the funding of Agness’ education.

More information can be found on the website in the Newsletters section.

Your child will receive their copy over the next few days.

    Online Safety

Please be aware of this website that has come to light recently:

Omegle is a website that pairs random strangers for live text or video chats. It first launched in 2009 and its slogan is “Talk to strangers!” There is an option for adult (18+) content and a section for people aged 13+ with parental permission. Anyone can use the site. Users simply go to Omegle.com and then choose ‘Text’ or ‘Video’ chat and the page states how many users are currently online. Depending on the time of day this can be hundreds of thousands. Omegle markets itself as a great way to meet new friends however has been known to feature pornography and inappropriate content within chats, so it is important that parents are aware of the risks associated with the site.

With children accessing the internet on a range of devices, the job of protecting them from things they may not be ready for online can be a challenge. In recent years, a wide variety of monitoring software solutions have appeared to allow you to see what children are doing online and set digital boundaries. Google’s Family Link and OurPact are amongst some of the best Parental control APPS and well worth considering.

As always, the dates of activities can be found on the school website in the News and Events, Calendar section.

    Kind regards
