Week 1
Week 1
This week we learnt how to hold the ukulele correctly. Check that you are holding it like the photo below.
We also learnt to number the 4 strings and learnt their formal note names. The numbering, from 1 - 4, starts with the string nearest the floor.
When we play the strings from the ceiling to the floor, we use the thumb to play; when we play the strings from the floor to the ceiling, we use our index (Percy Pointer) finger to play the strings.
We made up some rhymes to help us remember the string note names, starting with the top string nearest the ceiling.
G - Greedy
C - Cats
E - Eat
A - Anything
Finally, we learnt a song.
For the yellow lines, use your thumb to play each of the strings one at a time, from the ceiling to the floor. Sing one word per string.
For the blue lines, use your finger to play each of the strings one at a time, from the floor to the ceiling. Sing one word per string.
For the purple lines, use your thumb, or finger and thumb together, to strum all of the strings together, one strum per word 'scratch'.
I have a dog,
His name is Patch.
My dog has fleas,
You should see him.
Scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch,
Scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch.
Enjoy practising! I wonder what we will learn next week?
