Whole School Newsletter 2024
Thu 22 Feb 2024Dear Parent / Carer, 22 February 2024
World Book Day
This year, we will be celebrating World Book Day on the Thursday 7th March. On that day, children are invited to dress up as a favourite book character.
On World Book Day, we have a visitor - a local actor and award-winning story teller, Michele O'Brien - coming to school to work with the children. She will be 'performing' as different characters and involving the children in some drama as she takes them back in time through some history of the local area.
Book Charity Challenge
We are also supporting a local Children’s Book Bank (run by one of our Year 3 parents) which distributes ‘like new’ or ‘gently used’ books to children in the local area via the Christchurch Food Bank. They are keen to support all children in having access to books and as a Rights Respecting School, we would like to support them and Article 31: Children have a right to relax, play and take part in a range of cultural and artistic activities. If you have a book at home that you can donate to help support this great cause then please send this in with your child on World Book Day. We are setting a challenge for Year 3 and 4 combined and Year 5 and 6 combined to each build a tower of books that is as tall as Mr Partridge! There will be a prize of extra playtime if the challenge is completed.
Visiting book FairThe Scholastic Travelling Book Fair will be visiting school from Tuesday 19th March until Friday 22nd March. We will be issuing the children with a £1 World Book token which can be used towards the price of a book at the Fair or can be exchanged in some local shops (Sainsbury's, The Works, Bookends) for a free book (please check with your local store before you visit).

Parking
If you bring or collect your child by car, please only park on the school side of Mudeford Lane and never stop on the raised area opposite the gate to allow children crossing the road to have a clear view either way. Neighbours have also requested that driveways and garages are not blocked when collecting your child. If you are collecting from the Nelson Drive gate, please be considerate when parking and do not obstruct this pedestrian gate.
