  • School Closure Update - 28 April

    Tue 28 Apr 2020 M.Partridge

    Dear Parents/Carers,

It would have been nice to have started off the summer term with all the children having returned to school ready for a packed term of learning and activities. Unfortunately, we may have to wait a while before returning to school but I very much look forward to the day I can welcome the school community back together.

Even without all of the children, the school has continued to be a busy place. We have remained open throughout the Easter holidays providing childcare for those children of key workers, in order to support them in their critical roles in the community.

We have continued to provide a Free School Meal provision for those eligible children in the form of a food hamper every two weeks. If your circumstances have changed and your household income has reduced, you may be eligible for Free School Meals. For more information go to www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals.

Christchurch Food Bank have also contacted us to say that they are there to help if you are finding it difficult to feed your family. Please contact them on christchurchfoodbank@gmail.com or 07587371088 and they can arrange for a food delivery or for you to collect.

    Home-based Learning

It is very important to do the best you can to support your child with their home learning in every year group and I would like to thank you for what you are already doing to help your child. Year 6 pupils for example will transfer to Secondary schools in September and will start a Year 7 curriculum. Like all year groups, keeping learning habits going will greatly help the return to school (hopefully before the end of this academic year).

The teachers have set weekly tasks, found on the school website. You may wish to undertake additional tasks such as the National Academy lessons, which can also be found on the website.

Please remember, however, that there is no pressure to do all the tasks on the website, you cannot replicate ‘school’ at home. We aim to provide some learning to help keep structure and focus for your children at home through this difficult and challenging time. We understand and appreciate what you are having to do at home with your own children is not easy and many of you will have siblings of different ages and still be expected to work from home yourselves.

It can be a particularly challenging time for children with SEND and if those parents have any concerns or questions regarding the weekly on going home based learning, please do not hesitate to phone the school or email the office office@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk. If you would specifically like to speak to Mrs Crutchley, as SENDCo, please call the school on Thursday 30th April and Thursday 14th May.

We have set up year group email addresses

year3@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk, year4@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk, year5@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk, year6@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk and musicandmfl@mudefordjun.dorset.sch.uk where the children can send in their work or achievements for their teacher to view, although there will not be an opportunity for personalised feedback.

However, work which has been submitted may be uploaded by teachers on to the school website. Look out also for the video messages from the teachers appearing on the website this week.

Lastly, I include a list of when the teachers will be in school. Parents will be able to make contact with their child’s teacher to discuss any of the home learning on these days.

    Finance

During the lockdown, many families are facing a reduced budget as a result of unemployment, furloughing or the increased costs associated with having children at home all day.

Although our changed circumstances can feel overwhelming or worrying, there are many organisations to help and support parents and carers facing new challenges. If your financial situation has changed, you may be entitled to additional support or benefits. Below are some links to help you:

Article 17- Every child has the right to reliable information from the media. This should be information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.

Each week First News ( a newspaper especially written for children) is made available to you in the school library. They have sent us an online copy for you to access while schools are closed.
