Whole School Newsletter June 2025
Tue 17 Jun 2025Mudeford Junior School
Dear Parent/Carer, 17 June 2025
It has been a busy few weeks in school with Year 6 Residential Trip to Osmington Bay, Year 4 Cranborne Trip, Sports Day and Year 6 SATs. There are many further events upcoming in school over the next few weeks.
School Nurse Drop In
Please note there will be a school nurse drop in session Monday 23 June from 8.45 to 9.45am to discuss any concerns that parents may have regarding toileting, diet, growth, sleep etc.
Please contact the office to make an appointment.
Open Evening
There will be an informal open evening for all year groups on Tuesday 24 June between 4.00 and 5.30pm. This is an opportunity for children to bring their parents in to school to look at the work and achievements that their children have enjoyed throughout the year. Teachers will be in attendance. There is no need to book an appointment.
Year 6 Transition Day 2025
Transition day for all year 6 children will be on Friday 27 June. Children will be visiting their new secondary schools on this day. Parents will need to arrange transport for their own child.
SAT Tests / End of Year Reports
Year 6 children have completed their SAT tests. We are very proud of how hard the children have worked. Their results, alongside the end of year report, will be sent out in July. SAT tests for Year 6 in 2026 will take place during the week beginning 11 May 2026.
End of Year Reports for all other year groups will be sent out in July with the names of their new teacher for academic year 2025 – 2026. We will be mixing certain year groups to ensure balance of gender, ability and SEND. Current year 4 and 5 cohorts will be split for September 2025.
Year 6 Residential Trip 2025 and 2026
The year 6 residential trip to PGL Osmington Bay took place on Friday 6 June – Monday 9 June and was a great success, enjoyed by all the children and accompanying staff.
The residential trip for 2026 has been booked for Friday 5 June – Monday 8 June 2026. Mr Goodlet has already sent out information. Thank you to all parents who have already paid the first deposit of £85. Please note the second payment of £80 is due by Monday 7 July 2025.
Hot School Lunches
Friday 18 July will be the last day we will be offering a hot meal service for this term. Upon request we can offer a packed lunch to those children eligible for Free School Meals for Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July.
Holidays in Term Time
BCP continue to allocate an Attendance Officer to all schools. She has asked us to remind parents that Government legislation makes it clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term times unless there are exceptional circumstances. It is extremely unlikely that time out of school for a holiday will be considered exceptional circumstances. As a school we are committed to ensuring that pupils miss as little time as possible.
Sun Protection
Warmer weather is forecast over the coming weeks, we are concerned that the children have adequate protection from the sun especially during the long lunch break. Could you please send the children to school with: Sun cream Hat Water bottle Thank you for your support.

If PE/Games is scheduled for that day, can the children please bring in a pair of trainers so that they can participate in Games lessons later on in the day.
Sports Day
On Monday 19th May the children will be undertaking a walk-through of the events for Sports Day and we ask that all children bring in a pair of trainers to change into.

You child will also need in school:
* A water bottle
* Sun cream and hat
* Their school jumper
* Any medication such as inhalers etc.

May Whole School Newsletter
Tue 06 May 2025Dear Parent/Carer 6 May 2025
Welcome back to the summer term, as always, this is a busy term. All dates for the term can be found on the school website in the calendar section. Year Group Newsletters have also been sent out with specific information relevant to each cohort, these can also be found on the school website.
VE Day - VE Day stands for Victory in Europe day, a key event at the end of WW2.
This year will be VE Day's 80th anniversary, with lots of exciting events planned nationally from Monday 5 until the anniversary itself on Thursday 8 May. In school we will be celebrating this event on 8 May and will be educating the children about this historic day.
There is also the opportunity for parents to take their children to Christchurch Quay on Thursday evening, 6 - 10pm for the planned celebrations (beacon lighting, fairground rides, music, WWII vehicles etc.)
Other information that can be shared with the children can be found at:
VE Day 80th anniversary: How is it being marked around the UK? - BBC Newsround
School Photographer
The school photographer will be visiting on Friday 16th May to take whole class photographs.
Sports Day for all year groups
All parents welcome to attend Sports Day on Tuesday 20th May - 10:30 - 12:15. The event will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Warm Weather
It has been wonderful to see the sun out on a regular basis this term. Please ensure the children come to school with sun cream and a sunhat during hot weather. As jumpers become less of a necessity it is helpful if all are clearly labelled so the owners can be easily found.
Wraparound care
Pouncing Panthers have now firmly established themselves as the school’s extended service provider. If you require childcare before or after school, bookings can be made on the day via the Pouncing Panthers website.
Friday Morning Cardio Tennis, Health and Wellbeing Session for Parents
Cardio tennis for all parents will continue throughout the summer term – Friday mornings 8.50am – 9.55am. All Parents of Mudeford Junior School children are welcome, no booking necessary. Just turn up on the day! Ally and Adam will be offering a fun morning of cardio tennis, fitness and fun for parents. Enjoy a morning of great activities, in a fun, friendly environment, all abilities welcome for an inclusive session. These sessions will be FREE of charge.
Spaces in Year 3
Our local authority, BCP, has provided all Christchurch schools with information regarding birth rates and forecasts for school applications over the next 7 years. Birth rates nationally are dramatically falling and this is mirrored in the Christchurch area. This has already resulted in the number of places available in Christchurch schools exceeding demand. Unusually, we have spaces in our current year 3 classes which the school are keen to fill. The school’s budget is determined by the number of children on roll and subsequently this impacts on the provision that the school can offer.
