  • Newsletter. Covid update- January 4

    Mon 04 Jan 2021 M.Partridge

    Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you had a safe and enjoyable Christmas. May I wish you a very Happy New Year and hope that 2021 brings us back to some sort of normality.

Welcome to Miss Basson who will be teaching in Year 6 and Mrs Hart who will be working as a Teaching assistant in Year 4. Miss Vooght has also joined us as a teacher in Year 3, she will be covering 3MW when Miss McKinley begins maternity leave over the next few weeks.

You may have seen on the news the debate as to whether primary schools should remain open. Over the holidays the school has been in regular contact with BCP Local Authority and Department for Education, right up to Sunday evening. The Department for Education has advised Primary Schools that we will remain open. If further news is received then it will be posted on the school website.

After discussions with BCP Local Authority this morning, at this time there is no guidance as to which Keyworkers would continue to be offered face to face tuition in the event of a school closure.

    Home Learning

As a contingency plan, in the event of the school being shut, from today the teachers will be sending Home Learning workbooks home, writing equipment and various log ins for computer programmes such as Times Tables Rockstars and MyMaths. Please check with your child that they have brought home their workbook and writing equipment.

    Dropping off and Collecting children:

The school has been asked by parents whether they are allowed to wear face coverings on the school site if they so wish. We would welcome face coverings being worn by visiting adults whilst being on the school premises

    • We ask that adults maintain two metre distancing from other adults, staff and children whilst on the school grounds.
    • We kindly ask that the number of adults collecting a child in the school is kept to a minimum thus reducing the number of adults on site.
    • We kindly request that the children arrive during their allocated slot so that numbers of parents and children on site can be safely managed.
    • Leaving the school site promptly when your child has been released by the class teacher.

    • We ask children of 4TN to arrive no earlier than 8.30am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.35am. We ask parents to collect the children of 4TN promptly at 3.05pm. The gate will open at 3pm.

I’d like to thank you for the generous donations to the Reverse Advent campaign. All goods donated will go the local food bank.

    Christmas arrangements

Arrangements for Christmas will be very different this year, however we still want to make the last week of the term a memorable and exciting week for the children.

Festive activities will be taking place throughout the week. There will still be Christmas parties, held in classrooms this year. As well as traditional party games, the children will be watching Jamie Jambo, a visiting magician, on the day of their Christmas party. Each year group will enjoy a separate performance. On party day, the children are invited to come in to school wearing mufti for the whole day.

    Party days – Year 3 - Monday 14th December

    Year 5 – Tuesday 15th December

    Year 4 – Wednesday 16th December

    Year 6 - Thursday 17th December

In addition to children wearing mufti on the day of their party, we also invite the children to wear a Christmas jumper into school throughout the whole of the last week. Although with Covid it will not be possible to host our usual pantomime with all the children in the hall, we have purchased a digital version for the children to watch in their classrooms to really get them in the Christmas spirit!

Each class will also have the opportunity to cook with Mrs Hills (our cookery teacher) to produce some edible Christmas treats.

On the last day of term, Friday 18th December, we invite children to bring in games to play, (no tablets or lap tops please). On this day we are also offering a hot Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

School will finish at the usual time for each class on Friday 18th December and we return on Monday 4th January 2021.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas.

    Best wishes

  • Covid Positive Case 4TN

    Tue 01 Dec 2020 M.Partridge

    Date: 01/12/2020

FOR CONTACTS/ PARENTS OF CLOSE CONTACTS OF COVID 19 AT MUDEFORD JUNIOR SCHOOL.

Advice for child to self-isolate for 14 days

Dear parent (of child in 4TN),

We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school, in 4TN.  We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health Dorset and BCP Council.

    Isolation advice

Mudeford Junior School has communicated with Public Health Dorset tonight (Tuesday 1 December) and have followed their instructions. We have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected person. In line with the national guidance, we ask that your child now stay at home and self-isolate until Wednesday 9 December, returning to school on Thursday 10 December.  (This is 14 days from when the contact was last in school.)

We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID 19 to others in the community.

If your child is well at the end of the 14 days period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities.

Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the 14 day self-isolation period.

Please see the link to the Public Health England Staying at Home Guidance

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, you should organise for your child to be tested via the NHS online portal or by calling 119. Your household should isolate until you receive the test results giving the all clear.

    Symptoms of COVID 19

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • new continuous cough and/or
    • high temperature and/or
    • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of following the key public health measures to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in our school and the wider community.

    • Keep your distance from anyone who isn’t in your household or support bubble
    • Wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds or more
    • Wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces
    • Self-isolate with your household and arrange a test if you have symptoms

    Flu vaccination

We would also encourage you and your family to have the flu vaccination if you are eligible for this, especially if you are in a risk group. You can find out about risk groups and whether you are eligible for a flu vaccine at the NHS Flu vaccine overview.

  • Reverse Advent -Supporting the local food bank at Christmas

    Fri 27 Nov 2020 Miss S.Mckinley

    Dear Parents

As last year, in this time of giving, we have decided to support the local food bank in the run up to Christmas.

During the period of advent, from Tuesday 1 December, this is an opportunity to give rather than receive.  We will be collecting tinned items such vegetables, tuna or tomatoes, biscuits, dried beans/pulses, tea, coffee, sugar and everyday toiletries such as shampoo, shower gel, soap, toilet rolls, toothpaste, toothbrushes, nappies, baby wipes baby formula, washing up liquid, cereal bars, flour etc.

Children can also earn house points for their colour team when they donate.  There will be a box in each bubble shared area for the children to put their donated items in. The food bank will collect all donations on Wednesday 16th December so you can bring your donations any day until then.

    Thank you for your support.

  • October Whole School Newsletter

    Tue 20 Oct 2020 M.Partridge

    Dear Parent/Carer,

The last seven weeks of the autumn term has seen the children return to school following a significant time spent away from school during the lockdown period. All year groups have quickly settled back into school life and we are once again now focused on the children’s education. Their attitude towards school and the resilience shown has been amazing. It has been fantastic to see all the children back in school.

Over the last few weeks the teachers have been completing assessments of the children’s attainment which has allowed them to understand where the gaps are in the learning and plan for the second half of the term.

Covid 19 has meant a lot of changes to the school routine and this will continue to be the case during the second half of term. Parents evenings will not be held in the traditional way, there will be no face to face meetings. Each teacher will produce a video message regarding their class and then will offer time slots where a phone call can be made to discuss the educational progress being made. Communication will follow regarding the booking of time slots to talk to your child’s teacher.

The curriculum has been modified, we have been allocating time every day for physical activity as this has been proven to help well being. Reading has been a priority and more time has been allocated to the teaching of core reading skills on a daily basis. This will continue to be the case during the second half of term. Please help your child with reading at home, encouraging them to read a variety of texts on a regular basis. The school has been active in putting on some clubs during this unprecedented time, sports clubs for each year group have been arranged and bikeability sessions available for individual year groups. These will be available during the second half of the term. Looking ahead to next summer we’ve booked Osmington Bay Residential trip for Year 6 and a day visit to Carey Camp for Year 5. Year 6 have already undertaken a field trip to Hengistbury Head to study the model river system.

The children have been working, playing and eating in year group bubbles, to minimise interaction with children of other year groups. The bubbling system will continue into the foreseeable future. Entry and exit times, break times and lunch times will continue to be staggered throughout the day. This again minimises any interaction between staff and children from different year groups. Year groups will continue to have separate break and lunchtimes.

We ask that you adhere to the allocated times for arrival and collection so that year group bubbles do not mix. Upon arrival to the school, if you are accompanying your child, please wait in the designated waiting area with them (Years 3 and 4 on the Lower Junior playground and Years 5 and 6 on the Upper Junior playground), socially distanced from others. Unaccompanied children must also wait in the designated waiting area. Siblings must also remain with their parent and not use the playground - this is not a time for unsupervised play.

Parents are requested not to congregate at entrances to the school and to move away from the school as soon as possible.

We have set arrival times before 9am in order to help parents who need to go to work and have liaised with the Infant school to ensure our collection times do not clash with theirs. We kindly request that the children wash their hands at home before coming to school. There is an established one-way system around the school, which we will continue to use. Entry will only be through the main gate on Mudeford Lane. Only one parent should accompany their child at the start and end of the session.

Teachers will call children to line up at their allocated time. Parents will not be allowed to enter the school building with their child. On entry into the building, the children will be asked to sanitise their hands before entering the classroom and throughout the school day.

The present Government guidance states that children should not be wearing face coverings in school.

We ask children of 4TN to arrive no earlier than 8.30am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.35am. We ask parents to collect the children of 4TN promptly at 3.05pm. The gate will open at 3pm.

We ask children of 4MR to arrive no earlier than 8.35am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.40am. We ask parents to collect the children of 4MR promptly at 3.10pm.

We ask children of 6GT to arrive no earlier than 8.30am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.35am. We ask parents to collect the children of 6GT promptly at 3.05pm.

We ask children of 6EN to arrive no earlier than 8.35am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.40am. We ask parents to collect the children of 6EN promptly at 3.10pm.

We ask children of 3BN to arrive no earlier than 8.45am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.50am. We ask parents to collect the children of 3BN promptly at 3.20pm.

We ask children of 3MW to arrive no earlier than 8.50am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.55am. We ask parents to collect the children of 3MW promptly at 3.25pm.

We ask children of 5ST to arrive no earlier than 8.45am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.50am. We ask parents to collect the children of 5ST promptly at 3.20pm.

We ask children of 5AD to arrive no earlier than 8.50am, with the children lining up promptly at 8.55am. We ask parents to collect the children of 5AD promptly at 3.25pm.

As with local lockdowns we are in a transitional phase. If parents or pupils go on holiday at half term to most popular destinations they will need to quarantine for 2 weeks from the moment they return. BCP have informed schools that they are expecting Sweden and Italy to drop off the exemption list shortly. The Government are also making travel restrictions more and more within the areas of the UK in the coming weeks. Wales will be banning travel into the area before our half term and in addition it is likely that as well as in Liverpool, that other areas will be for essential work related travel only.

Half term: The school will be monitoring e mails during the half term period. We have been instructed by BCP to ask parents to inform us immediately if any child contracts and then are confirmed as Covid 19 positive. This will then result in the school contacting Public Health England and seeking guidance on the appropriate actions to be taken.

The government has also asked schools to consider what systems would be put into place if home based learning was required at any time in the future. A new website is almost ready to be launched, with a new learning platform is also under construction. Details will follow. Keep looking at the website as it will give you updates for the term and events for the year.

    Kind regards
