Whole School Newsletter June 2026

Mudeford Junior School

Dear Parent/Carer,                                                                                                         18 June 2026

It has been a busy few weeks in school with Year 6 Residential Trip to Osmington Bay, Year 4 Cranborne Trip, Sports Day and Year 6 SATs. There are many further events upcoming in school over the next few weeks.

Parents Open Evening for all Children. There will be an informal open evening for all year groups on Tuesday 23 June between 4.00 and 5.30pm. This is an opportunity for children to bring their parents into school to look at the work and achievements that their children have enjoyed throughout the year. Teachers will be in attendance. There is no need to book an appointment.

Year 6 Transition Day 2026

Transition day for all year 6 children will be on Friday 26 June. Children will be visiting their new secondary schools on this day.  Parents will need to arrange transport for their own child.

Year 5 Transition Event to Highcliffe Secondary School. This year Highcliffe Secondary School have invited our present Year 5 cohort to visit their site on Friday 3 July.  This will take place during the morning, with the school providing transport, the children will be back for lunch. This will enable the year group to familiarise themselves with Highcliffe Secondary School in advance of choosing their secondary school for September 2027.

Mudeford Junior School 50th Anniversary

This year the school is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Thursday 9th July. To mark the occasion there will be a small celebratory event.  The gates will open at 2.40pm. Please put this date in your diary.  There will be a small musical performance from the children starting at 2.45pm, including a newly written school song. In addition, there will be an opportunity to have a piece of cake and soft drinks. Cash only donations for the drinks and cake will be put towards a project to be chosen by the school council in September 2027.

Staffing For September 2026 – Mrs Miller

Mrs Miller has been part of our school community for 30 years. In that time she has been a key member in creating and maintaining high standards of achievement in the school. She has been an integral member of the school’s leadership team and has been responsible for the running of the Year 3 and Year 4 teams. She has been a wonderful colleague and a true ambassador for the children’s education. We wish her all the best in her retirement.

SAT Tests / End of Year Reports

Year 6 children have completed their SAT tests.  We are very proud of how hard the children have worked. Their results, alongside the end of year report, will be sent out in July. SAT tests for Year 6 in 2027 will take place during the week beginning 10 May 2027.

End of Year Reports for all other year groups will be sent out in July with the names of their new teacher for academic year 2026 – 2027. We will be mixing certain year groups to ensure balance of gender, ability and SEND.  Current year 4 and 5 cohorts will be split for September 2026.

Year 6 Residential Trip 2026 and 2027

The year 6 residential trip to PGL Osmington Bay took place on Friday 6 June – Monday 9 June and was a great success, enjoyed by all the children and accompanying staff.

The residential trip for 2027 has been booked for Friday 11 June – Monday 14 June 2027. Mr Goodlet has already sent out information.

Sun Protection

Warmer weather is forecast over the coming weeks, we are concerned that the children have adequate protection from the sun especially during the long lunch break.  Could you please send the children to school with:       Sun cream    Hat   Water bottle  Thank you for your support.

Mobile Phones

Both of our secondary feeder schools have informed us that children in year 7 from September 2026 will not be permitted smartphones in their respective secondary schools. Mudeford Junior School is presently receiving information from the Department of Education about developments in their policy and advice to schools nationally. We are being informed that there will be new restrictions being put into place for under 16 year olds. We will update our policy when all information has been received, with children in our school continuing not to require smart phones for school.

Holidays in Term Time

BCP continue to allocate an Attendance Officer to all schools. She has asked us to remind parents that Government legislation makes it clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term times unless there are exceptional circumstances.  It is extremely unlikely that time out of school for a holiday will be considered exceptional circumstances.  As a school we are committed to ensuring that pupils miss as little time as possible.
