Science

Science helps us to understand and make sense of the world around us. It is vital to our development as a society and for us to continue to succeed as a race. Without scientific developments, the world would be a very different place.
Children are naturally curious and want to understand and make sense of things. Science teaching should foster this curiosity and encourage children to explore and investigate their environment.

The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he's one who asks the right questions. ~Claude Lévi-Strauss

Intent

At Mudeford Junior School, we want our science curriculum to create excited, engaged and curious learners who are keen to explore and question the world around them. Children will develop the confidence to take risks, and be successful through the purposeful application of skills in real-life contexts.

The science curriculum has been planned to ensure that the children’s skills in each of the five areas of scientific enquiry are carefully developed. These are interwoven with scientific knowledge. Practical activities are part of teaching in this subject. Children are continually challenged to question key findings and to make decisions about where and how to find the information and solutions they need. We have the same high aspirations of all our children.
